Program Description:

Phoenix Driver Intervention (PDI) is a program of education and counseling for Connecticut drivers with arrests for driving under the influence of alcohol or other drugs. There are four parts to the driver intervention, consisting of an initial evaluation and a three-part program of education and counseling. This course meets the requirements of Connecticut State Law and the Department of Motor Vehicles.

The first phase of the program is a single session taking place over one weekend, from Friday evening through Sunday afternoon. This session is held at the convenient and accessible Econo Lodge Inn & Suites in Windsor Locks. Up to fifteen participants will meet with a Licensed Counselor to explore their use of alcohol and other drugs and related risk behavior. The group remains at the hotel throughout the weekend.

After completion of the weekend session, participants attend one two and one half hour group session per week, for eight weeks. During the weekly session, a Licensed Counselor helps them learn to change harmful substance use and other risk behavior and then maintain the changes. The weekly sessions are held in Windsor Locks.

Once the eight sessions are completed, four follow-up sessions are required over a one year period. A certificate of completion is provided upon successful completion of all phases of the program.

Failure to complete all sessions can prevent reinstatement of driver's license.
Alcohol/drug testing and self-help group attendance are required in all program phases.

Admission Process:

The Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles will send instructions to offenders, who may contact PDI for assistance by phone or by email.

Each participant should first contact PDI, by phone or email, to set up an evaluation with one of our Certified Substance Abuse Counselors.

Payment Methods:

The total cost of the program is $955, payable on entrance to the first phase of the treatment program.  The fee is broken into two segments.
